Interview with Author Jennifer Juan

What inspired your latest book “Kissing Boys, Just For The Thrill”?

I was inspired by my own experiences of womanhood, and humanity, as well as the experiences of people around me. I love to explore life through literature. It can allow you to see things in so many different ways, while also allowing you to create something special. I wanted to write a collection of poems that reflected various aspects of the human experience, particularly from the perspective of women.
What is your favorite poem from your latest book “Kissing Boys, Just For The Thrill”?

I think probably “You’re A Crushing Bore (But I’ve Got A Crush On You), because it’s playful and fun, but also so full of passion and raw emotion. It really captured the frustrations and troubles of love, and how it isn’t as simple as we’d like.

What inspired you to create audio and visual presentations to go with your poetry?

When I was studying Creative Writing, at The University Of Greenwich, I spent a lot of time around film students, and I was really interested in how film makers use different mediums to put together their projects, so as I grew as a writer, I tried to incorporate different mediums into what I do, so that I can keep things fresh and interesting for my audience.

Do you have plans to do any more readings of your poetry in the future?

I do. I’ve been doing a few readings in London lately, when I can, and I’m looking at heading out to other places in the UK, and possibly Europe, over the next few months. It’s very exciting, because I love to travel to new places, so I’m really looking forward to that.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m releasing a project over the summer that I’m really proud of, called “Drowning In Us”, which is a love story, presented through a collection of poetry, a short film and an album of music I wrote. I can’t wait to share it with people because it’s something I’ve been working on for a long time.
